I didn’t want to believe my eyes this morning when I did my quick glance at the news on Youtube and saw numerous video stories of LA protesters with the sound of guns and explosions and what looked like tear gas.
I recalled the George Floyd events of past years. I liked the story which is attached to a action on ifttt putting it on my website to share. Normally I go write something under the video but today I wrote in a very resigned emotional state that I would comment later in clarity. This is that later. I hope I’m in clarity, I think I am. With all that’s going on with this administration, I feel so beat down most the time I just post stories without commentary. This one is worthy of my reflection.
Los Angeles is the huge hub I have grown around. I’m a South County kid, born in Fullerton and raise further South in Mission Viejo where I lived until I was about 24. I would vacillate near and far from the hub of Angels and finally come to reside in the High Desert region of SoCAL, about an hour from Disneyland and 3 hours from Las Vegas. I’ve lived up here since 2002 and I like it for many reasons. Unfortunately for me, there aren’t enough venues for open mics and small gigging, I record music but rarely get to perform out. Other than that, I live a fairly resigned to the prairie kind of life up here. Los Angeles is my time zone, and reference for pretty much any geberic question about where I live. I love Los Angeles. I saw Pink Floyd at the Hollywood Bowl, I’ve been to the civic center by Olvera Street more times than I can count. I love the diversity of people, food, business, vegetation, beaches, but above everything, the diversity of people.
We have an occupant of the White House who hates diversity. He has failed to deliver to his minion-like voters on the economy so he’s pouring his devilish resources into ICE and gathering up so-called hoodlums and “bad guys” and violently treating these people as he unloads them across the border of 3rd countries like El Salvador. I am so very proud of the civilians protesting however I’d caution those who do that to keep it non violent. Getting arrested can be an effective tool but it can also get you lost in a sea of thuggery who are told by this “man” to treat you unfairly and not be shy about it. The man thinks we will be assauged by seeing all this. A family member (divorced side, I still think of them as family though) tells me she is happy with Trump and he is honest because he’s doing what he campaigned to do. I don’t even argue. Groceries cost more, tariffs have caused our reputation as a country to sink, thousands have lost food, jobs, and resources due to DOGE, but she focuses on deporting humans as the determiner of liking this man. I do not get it.
I hope the protests continue. Just like jury duty, I think we need to do our duty sometimes. I only hope that as a country we get this figued out without too much bloodshed. I’m a Democrat but I’d be happy with anyone non-maga at this point. I mostly cringe at the news, I don’t know why we continue heralding this man as a whole. Keep the faith out there and be smart, be safe if you must protest. I’m with you.
