Chapter One
Awe
Did you ever learn about the formation of the Grand Canyon in school? About how a gigantic world famous sedimentary intelligible river was formed by a small trickle or ravine some hundred million years ago? Better yet, have you seen it? In me, this is a natural form that gives me pause, it awakens my sense of “awe.” I’m lucky to have a mental place to “go” in my mind where I can sense something that old and a momentum that continues to this day. Karma is like that, as far as momentum goes. Though many have tried to codify the process in words, it really just leaves the searcher awestruck trying to understand this force that even drives the slow turning cog of human evolution, that is what I believe. I am in awe of the momentum of the river that has gradually cut the rock and geography of Arizona at the Grand Canyon. What things make you feel awestruck? It could be a song, or a favorite band playing live. It could be the fates speaking when you get a message as an answer to a desperate prayer. Who are the fates? The interviewer asks him, “Did you see God?” The Astronaut replied, “Tell us about that!” The interviewer leaned in waiting to hear about her Jesus. “God is a black woman.”
