Why do Servers go Down?

I did a search with these terms because my server is currently down.  The results that came back were so irrelevant to this search that I decided I’d write one better when the server goes back up.  They always go back up but sometimes it’s very hard to wait!  What’s up with your server?  Misery loves company.
